That's right. In 2014 New York/New Jersey will host Super Bowl XVLIII in the new Medowlands Stadium. With the $1.6 Billion Dollar Stadium open and operating, it's proven to be a spectacle of a stadium already. It was also named the NFL's greenest stadium, brah.
With NFL owners voting Tuesday to award the 2014 Super Bowl for New York/New Jersey, the possibility of staging the league's signature event at open-air stadiums in other northern venues just received a gust of optimism.
That much was evident with the bounce in the step of Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder, whose vision to mount a bid several years ago to bring a Super Bowl to the nation's capital never materialized into a formal package.
Owners took four secret ballots to rubber stamp the $1.6 billion new Meadowlands Stadium as site of Super Bowl XVLIII, chosen over Tampa Bay and South Florida. The New York bid, themed, Make Some History, couldn't offer the balmy Florida temperatures. Instead, it amplified the historic significance of having an outdoor Super Bowl in the north.
Said New York Jets owner Woody Johnson, "We hope it snows."
It was only a matter of time before we got it here. Of course they would chose New York as the testing grounds KNOWING how much we love football let alone the excitement of the Super Bowl. Me though, ill be nice a warm on my couch eating wings drinking beer NOT freezing my ass off at a historical event, that's just me though.
